Dear Editor,
Mindfulness is a form of meditation that originated in Eastern spiritual traditions, particularly Buddhism. It involves cultivating awareness of one’s thoughts, behaviors, emotions, and sensations. At its core, mindfulness emphasizes two key principles: focusing on the present moment and maintaining a non-judgmental attitude. These two basic elements play an essential role in events, actions, and reactions. In other words, the ability to detect self-emotions and awareness about self during production in addition to self-tendencies control and how to react to various conditions and people are called mindfulness. Mindfulness techniques are effective in promoting muscle relaxation, reducing worry, and consequently decreasing anxiety and stress levels. The primary mechanism underlying mindfulness appears to be attentional control. By repeatedly focusing on a neutral stimulus, such as the breath, individuals can cultivate better self-regulation of attention, which helps prevent rumination and reduces preoccupation with stressful thoughts related to performance and evaluation.
