Abstract
Background: Collaborative education is an educational strategy that is used in a number of universities, although there is no consistent evaluation to assess the acceptance of this method among medical students. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the attitude of pharmacy students of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, regarding the use of peer education method in their learning and performance of final physiology exam.
Methods: In this study, a total of 109 first-year (group 1) and second-year (group 2) students were participated.
Findings: The results of the present study showed that the average grades of the cell course in the first group, which was presented and evaluated by the peer education method, increased significantly compared to the second group (were evaluated by the usual method). However, the average grades of the students in both groups showed a significant increase for the courses that evaluated by the peer education method compared to the courses that were evaluated by the usual method, therefore pharmacy students had a positive attitude towards the use of peer education in classrooms as a part of the overall evaluation.
Conclusion: In conclusion, students showed positive attitude regarding the use of peer learning method which was accompanied with improved understanding and increasing self-confidence in students, which was in line with the results of increasing the average grades of courses that were part of their evaluation by peer education.
