Abstract
Introduction:
Training is a complex process whose oversimplification may result in wasting resources and facilities. The present study aimed to train the midwifery students and evaluate their competence in episiotomy repair practice using human pair as a training model.
Methods:
This Experimental study was conducted on 28 5th semester midwifery students at Shoushtar Faculty of Medical Sciences who were selected via a convenience sampling method based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. They were randomly divided into the exercise training (experimental) group and the routine clinical training (control) group. The research instruments were a demographic questionnaire and the training effectiveness evaluation at the learning and behavior levels using the Kirkpatrick Model. Data analysis was done in SPSS using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, independent t-test, and paired t-test at a p-value less than 0.05 (p≤0.05).
Results:
The research results depicted that at the learning level, the average score improvement of students participating in the episiotomy repair human placenta Tissue model group increased compared to the pre-training stage to 1.37, which was statistically significant (p<0.001). However, in the control group, no significant difference was observed (p=0.125). At the behavior level, the students' average score of skills in the intervention group (3.38 ± 0.11) was almost 0.5 points higher than the control group (2.84±0.57), which was also statistically significant (p<0.001(.
Conclusion:
The use of practice models, including placenta tissue, in teaching clinical skills increases students' ability in learning and behavioral levels.
