Purpose:This research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the components of university social responsibility(USR)based on the experiences of selected universities in the world.
Method:The research is"exploratory"in terms of its purpose,"qualitative"in terms of data collection method, and"content analysis"in terms of data analysis.Using the purposeful sampling method, after identifying the eligible universities and through document analysis and related research, the components were extracted from the documents related to five universities: Harvard, Manchester, New South Wales,Peking and Kyoto.After summarizing the documents,they were analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method and using MAXQDA software.
Findings: Among the 640 extracted codes, basic (60) organizing (13) and comprehensive (3) themes were identified, which are, respectively, cooperation with the local community (42), providing educational and cultural programs and facilities for the local residents (31), actions based on social justice in the local community (27), conducting effective research (25), global impact (24), inclusive management, learning (23), planning to create a multicultural environment (22) have been the most frequent.
Conclusion: Using the results,a comprehensive framework for(USR)was compiled,which resulted in the classification of three global themes:value(including 3Organizer theme),process(including 8Organizer theme)and effect(including 2Organizer theme).Based on the experiences obtained from the analysis of the selected universities and the findings of the research,it is suggested that the trustees and policy makers of higher education in Iran provide a suitable platform for the implementation of social responsibility components in the mission, vision, strategic and operational plans, appropriate to the ecology of each university and provide for its internal and external stakeholders.
