Abstract

The aim of this study was to survey the relationship between metacognitive beliefs and mental health with academic performance of medical Students of Lorestan Univesity of medical sciences. Research method was desriptical –correlational and its statistical population included all 358 clinical course students. Sample size was determined by Cochran formula  and 185 members were selected by  relative stratified random sampling. Colletion data were carried out by standard questionnaires such as Metacognitive beliefs (MQ30 and Wells (1997), mental health (GHQ) and Student scores’s mean. In addition, descriptive data were done utilizing  descriptive indicators such as mean and standard deviation. In order to testing hypotheses, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Multiple Regression Analysis were used. According to survey results, there was a significant relationship between metacognitive strategies and mental health with academic performance of the students. Also, based on the results of multiple regression analysis, the variables of physical symptoms, depression, cognitive uncertainty, anxiety and sleep disorders, negative worry beliefs and social function disorder predicted approximately 57 percent of the scores’s variance of students’academic achievement.
