Abstract

Considering high prevalence of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis and few studies on educational models in Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL) among volunteer health workers (VHWs), the present study was done with the aim of determining the effect of educational program based on BASNEF model on promoting educational practice of VHWs in regard to CL. In this Quasi-Exprimental prospective study, 60 VHWs who were resident in CL endemic area of Jajarm city in 2013 were selected through cluster sampling method, and were randomly divided into experimental and control group. Data were collected before and 3 months after educational intervention using reliable and valid questionnaire. Then, data were analyzed using SPSS16 software, chi-square, t paired-Test, independent t-test, Mann-whitneyU and vilcoxon. Furthermore, the mean score of knowledge, attitude, behavioral intention and practice increased significantly 3 months after educational intervention program in experimental group, but the mean score of enabling factors did not have significant increase; the mean score of knowledge and practice didn’t show significant changes in control group, but the mean score of attitude, behavioral intention, enabling factors and practice significantly increased (p<0.05). Consequently, the efficacy of BASNEF model on the educational behaviors’ change of VHWs was confirmed. Therefore, using BASNEF model for educating VHWs in related to CL is suggested.
