Abstract
Introduction: Academic procrastination is one of the most important psychological dimensions in the field of planning, education and academic progress. Possible reasons for academic procrastination include lack of self-compassion and cyberspace addiction. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of predicting academic procrastination based on self-compassion and cyberspace addiction among students. Materials and Methods: The descriptive research method was correlation type. The statistical population included all students of Islamic Azad University of Qom branch in the academic year 2022-2023. Using Cochran's formula, the sample size was estimated to be 369 people who were selected by stratified random method. The instruments used included Tuckman's academic procrastination scale, Neff's self-compassion scale, and Young's Internet addiction scale. SPSS version 26 statistical software and simultaneous multiple regression statistical methods and Pearson correlation coefficient were used for statistical analysis of data.
Results: The results of the study show that the subscales of self-compassion, self-kindness, common human experiences, and mindfulness with regression coefficients (-0.267, -0.290, and -0.284), respectively, have a negative and significant relationship with have academic procrastination (p < 0.05), and self-judgment, isolation and extreme assimilation with regression coefficients (0.221, 0.286 and 0.627) have a positive and significant relationship with academic procrastination (p 0.05) <). Addiction to virtual space with a regression coefficient equal to (0.267) has a positive and significant relationship with academic procrastination (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The results of the study showed that self-compassion and cyberspace addiction can predict students' academic procrastination.
