Abstract
Introduction: The aim of the present study is to identify the barriers to using metaverse-based learning platforms in the educational system.
Materials and Methods: This research was conducted using a mixed-methods approach. In the qualitative section, thematic analysis and semi-structured interviews were used to identify concepts. The statistical population of this section consisted of academic experts and specialists from the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences and the University of Isfahan, who were purposefully selected. A total of 95 open codes were extracted from the interviews. After refining and categorizing, 37 barriers were identified as the main obstacles. In the quantitative section of the research, a questionnaire was distributed among 65 academic specialists, selected using purposive and convenient sampling methods, to rank the identified barriers from the previous stage. The data were ranked using the Friedman test in SPSS software.
Results and Disscusion: The results showed that the most significant barriers to using metaverse-based platforms in educational systems are low internet speed, weak infrastructure, lack of academic studies, the conflict between tradition and modernity, worn-out human resources, and the lack of utilization of skilled personnel. The findings of this study highlight the importance of examining these barriers to accelerate the adoption of metaverse-based learning platforms.
Conclusion: Policymakers should invest in the development of technological infrastructure, provide educational opportunities for trainers and instructors, and develop educational frameworks that align with learning experiences in this environment. Additionally, collaboration between educational stakeholders, technology developers, and researchers is crucial for developing guidelines, standards,.
