Abstract
The six-hat thinking method is an innovative teaching method that is useful in improving critical thinking skills among nursing students. The most important goal of today's education is to give students the ability to think flexibly and have an open mind to adapt to different situations (8). In a study, researchers used this method to teach students about caring for patients with breast cancer. Through this activity, students were encouraged to develop their creative thinking ability and also helped their empathic skills (9).
Since in the nursing lesson plan in Iran, the development of critical thinking has been emphasized as one of the important educational goals, so that the learners can gain the highest understanding from the available information and evidence and discover the hidden meanings and concepts. The use of the six thinking hats method allows for more logical and correct decisions due to the order and integrated structure it creates. The present author has had the experience of using this educational method in the Nursing Principles and Techniques nursing unit for the undergraduate level of nursing, but in general, no study was found on the use of this method in nursing education in Iran. Therefore, it is suggested to use this method in teaching nursing courses.
