Abstract

To cover the responsibilities toward students, the universities have to consider the student counseling as a necessity. This study aimed at comparing opinions of instructors and students towards Academic advising and counseling students in AJUMS. In this cross-sectional study, 501 students and academic staff from AJUMS in total acted as the participants. The data was collected by distribution of two questionnaires upon the status of educational counseling. The data was analyzed using SPSS.15 software, t- test and ANOVA. According to the responses, the academic staff evaluated educational counseling at the rate of above the average (3.46±0.59) and students under the average (2.40±0.84) with significant differences of (p<0.001). Comparisons between students and professors’ attitudes’ about situation of educational student counseling regarding sex showed no statistically significant difference. In general it is concluded that, academic staff and students are not satisfied with the present status of student counseling. Considering the essentiality of this procedure, to support and conduct the students more sufficiently, a remedial looking seems necessary.
