Training Needs Assessment for General Practitioners Engaged in North Khorasan University of Medical Science

Abstract
Training needs Identification for a medical community and their participation in the programs lead to have a community with higher efficacy, higher efficiency and promoted quality of the medical knowledge. Hence, this study was conducted to identify the training needs for the engaged general practitioners in North Khorasan University of Medical Science in 2014. As a descriptive analytical survey, investigated census population of 160 GPs were selected voluntary census method among 175 GPs. The data were analyzed by SPSS16 software based on the statistical descriptive indicators, and Chi2 test, following data collection through the related questionnaire. According to this study, 55.10% of the population was female, the age average of the participants was 35.79+1104 and their work experience average was 7.75+6.47. The training needs priorities for the GPs indicated the network management area as the first priority with 3.28 scores, health promotion training area as the 2nd priority with 3.01 scores, contagious diseases area as the 3rd priority with 3.55 scores followed by the 4th to the 8th priorities in several areas of treatment, non-contagious diseases, population health, family and school health, nutrition, occupational health, environmental health, oral health, psychological health and social health, respectively. The GPs felt higher training needs in non-contagious diseases area and lower needs in oral health. These results will help the related officials in the continuous and other training departments of the university to provide the necessary programs for appropriate GP training and establish in service and continuous training programs based on the occupational needs and obligated duties.
