Abstract

Educational counseling is a dynamic and targeted relationship that to be performed based on participation between student and instructor with procedures in accordance to student’ needs. Students’ satisfaction from providing guidance and academic counseling at university are identified as one of thefactors in their academic achievement.. Hence, this study was designed with the aim of determination ofsatisfaction from nursing and midwifery students' viewpointswithperformance of academic advisors in the first semester during1394-95. This research was a cross-sectional studythat encompassed 240 students randomly selected from School of Nursing and Midwifery in 3rdSemester and afterwards. Data collectionThe research also involved collecting data froma researcher-made questionnaire consisted of 8questions on demographic and contextual and 20 questions about students' satisfaction from academic advisors (graded on Likert rating scale), respectively. Data analysis and statistical procedures were performed by SPSS18.The results showed that the average of satisfaction withconsultingwas mentionedbynursing students 57.2 ± 18.4, by midwifery students 72±19.8, by operating-room students 65.5 ± 13.83, and the mean of total satisfaction was estimated 64.2±19.34. In terms ofeducational consulting, the average of students' satisfaction withtheir academic status assessment by the academic advisorat the end of each semesterwas 2.92 ± 1.22 that was consideredrelatively desirable; and the monitoring and following up by academic advisor on students’educational performance was2.88 ± 1.18 (relativelydesirable);the average of students' satisfaction from academic advisor in planning and controllingthe units choice was 3.14 ± 1.26 (relatively desirable). According to the findings, it is suggested that advisors should be present more amount of time at the school, furthermore, awareness rate of academic advisors aboutacademic and educational counseling should be checked and, if necessary, educational workshops for academic advisorsshouldbe held on consultation training, too.
