Abstract

Communicational skills application is an important part of nursing care; and addressing various aspects of teaching and the use of these skills are important. Hence, a cross sectional study was performed in 2010-2011 to assess attitude of paramedical college students about the training and the utilization of communicational skills between student and patient. The study was conducted on 150 paramedical students in Bushehr University of medical sciences. The sampling method was census; and data were collected through two questionnaires made of available literature review. Their validity was confirmed by the correctors’ verdict and the reliability by pilot study and Alpha Cronbach method too, alpha score was 0.80 to 0.95 for different domains. Descriptive- analytical tests were used for data analysis. According to the results, only 18.5% of subjects reported good quality of communicational skills training; based on student’s view point, the most frequent route for communicational skills training in all aspects was associated with other theoretical course and observation of teacher- patient communication; considering different domains, the use of communication skills at ideal level was %41.4 to %57.9 for. To this end, the education and the application of good communicational skills at optimal level among paramedical students showed low degree, therefore, revising educational programs and improving teaching methods with focus on communication skills are recommended.
