Abstract

The effective conditions on clinical education and learning chiefly nursing fundamentals may affect acquiring primary clinical skills. This study was conducted to recognize status and challenges of clinical education of undergraduate nursing fundamentals in nursing and midwifery school of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences. This qualitative study used content analysis approach and focus groups discussion, and forty-two beneficiaries participated from nursing and midwifery school and clinical setting including managers, faculty members, trainers, and nurses. After data analysis of focus interviews, the merged variety codes were compared for differences and similarities then were put in subcategories and categories. Finally, four themes were merged: “program and integration planing; humanity communicatoin management; barriers and facilitators; and perceptions and feelings. Nursing fundamentals education process suffers challenges of insufficient integration of academic, clinical and faculty gap, insufficient management staffing inside and outside o, student’s lack of proper understanding of learning and professional duties also insufficient control of barriers and insufficient use of facilitators. Regarding to their administrative, educational and clinical experiences, the participants reached consensus about the necessity of reforming and restructuring clinical education in a participatory manner to meet shortages.
