Abstract

Considering the importance of e-learning in medical education, the designation and initiation of new teaching methods is significant. Hence, the aim of this study was to compare two different teaching methods; traditional and weblog-based teaching (WBT) by group discussion. This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 114 students of nutritional science who selected the course unit of “food service managing”. In the first semester, 6-7 section was hold traditionally. Then, WBT was done off-line by the instructor. Data collection was carried out through researcher-made exit poll questionnaire and pre-test and post-test questionnaire too. For comparing intra and inter group differences, Paired sample T test and Student T test was used, respectively. Based on the pre-test results, neither scores was statistically different between groups (P>0.05). Moreover, the mean of attitude and practice scores in post-test were significantly higher in the WBT method (P=0.032 and P=0.017, respectively). However, no significant difference was found in scores of knowledge between two teaching methods (P=0.078). Therefore, the usage of web-sites and weblogs seems beneficial opportunity for e-learning that can improve educational level;awhile raised culture level and computer knowledge level is recommended necessary to use this method.
