Abstract

The relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement in the dental students of Babol University of Medical Sciences Abstract Emotional intelligence is the capacity to perceive, express, understand, use and manage emotions in one and others. The present study is designed to investigate the relationship between educational status and emotional intelligence among dentistry students of Babol University of Medical Sciences. This descriptive-analytical study was performed on all 93 dentistry students in fourth, fifth, and sixth year. Bar-On questionnaire was used to evaluate emotional intelligence. Students' score average was used as an index for educational status. Data was statistically analyzed with SPSS 18 software and T-test. The mean score of emotional intelligence was 353.49. There was no significant difference between EI subscales in different entries and mean score in each entry. Total score of EI in girls was significantly higher than boys (P= 0.01). There was no significant difference in educational status of students in native students and non-natives. There was no relationship between emotional intelligence and educational status.
