Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between pervasive anxiety and perfectionism with the mediating effectof referential thinking. The statistical population of the study was medical students of Alborz province, of which 165 students with anxiety were selected by purposeful sampling. Then, to collect information from the Spitzs et al. (2006) General Anxiety Inventory which consisted of 7 questions, 3 of these items related to the clinical symptoms of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, and the fourth was the Anxiety Scale. Morevover, the Erying et al. (2010) referential thinking questionnaire which was a 15-item self-report tool, and the Perfectionism Scale were used. The data were analyzed by structural equation modeling and so the results showed that there was a relationship between pervasive anxiety and perfectionism. In addition, this relationship was mediated by referential thinking variable. Therefore, it can be concluded that pervasive anxiety from perfectionism and referential thinking.
